NEW MAILING LIST & GUESTBOOK!

Emma moved to Los Angeles in 1995 and married an American actor, William Taylor, himself a talented singer and bassist. She spent time studying music theory, learning guitar, falling in love with jazz chords and singing jazz at jam sessions all over town. Her new-found knowleemma hutchinsondge was put to good use on her debut CD Hummingbirds, which came out in 2003 and features 11 original and diverse tracks. Following her subsequent divorce she returned to the UK in 2000 and has performed with her jazz quintet, her blues band, her swing band Hutchinson Hodges and the Emma Hutchinson Groove Trio, which performs jazz/funk/soul covers.

Her new EP, Let Me Be Me, came out in May 2005. To hear clips click here

With influences including the great jazz composers, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, the Pretenders, Motown, David Bowie, Blondie, Steely Dan and early Elton John, it’s easy to see why her writing is so eclectic. Live, the band rocks out on the EP title track “Let Me Be Me”, then settles down for the emotional jazzy soul ballad “You Made Me Stronger”. But put away your hankies because “Homeless In Hollywood” is a dark, dancey funk, written from the point of view of a teenager who’s fled her abusive home-life to try and make it in the City of Angels.

Melody-obsessed and lyric-dominated, every song tells a story.
