With influences including the great jazz composers, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, the Pretenders, Motown, David Bowie, Blondie, Steely Dan and early Elton John, it’s easy to see why her writing is so eclectic. Live, the band rocks out on the EP title track “Let Me Be Me”, then settles down for the emotional jazzy soul ballad “You Made Me Stronger”. But put away your hankies because “Homeless In Hollywood” is a dark, dancey funk, written from the point of view of a teenager who’s fled her abusive home-life to try and make it in the City of Angels.
